Renowned wine critic James Suckling, who lays claim to one of the most trafficked wine review websites in the world, brings his Great Wines of Italy event back to Bangkok this Dec 8 at the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel.
To put it lightly, this is the wine event of the year for a lot of people in Bangkok, and it’s not hard to understand why when you see what's on offer. The man himself has handpicked over 80 premium Italian brands and boutique wineries for the show, including Brunellos, Barolos, Tuscans, Barbarescos, Amarones, Chianti Classicos and many, many more—160 wines in total.
There will also be a screening of Suckling's documentary, JamesSuckling.com Presents: The Miracle of Alto Adige – A Great Wines of Italy Production, which explores the wineries and vineyards of Northeast Italy. The film was produced in Hollywood by renowned director and producer James Orr (Sister Act, Three Men and a Baby, Father of the Bride), it has been also submitted to the Sonoma Film Festival in Northern California.
A regular face in Bangkok, Suckling was described in 2010 by Forbes Magazine as "one of the most powerful wine critics," and has hosted other events in Thailand throughout the years, like rosé wine tastings in Phuket, in addition to the longstanding Great Wines event.
As one of the world’s most respected wine critics, having tasted more than 200,000 wines over three decades, Suckling’s website (www.JamesSuckling.com) explores the very best of the world’s wine culture through ratings, blogs and videos—the website alone includes over 50,000 tasting notes. In addition to Thailand, Suckling hosts regular wine events in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Thailand, The US and Europe. He holds other film credits to his name as well, including Cigars: The Heart and Soul of Cuba and Cannubi: A Vineyard Kissed by God.
