Gemmill Lane gets a new wine bar and tapas restaurant
The small stretch of road is spicing up again and this wine bar isn't the only newcomer.
Club Street may still be party central but down the road, Gemmill Lane is marching to its own steady buzz. Now, there are a bunch of new places moving in.
Delicacy by Food & Merchants focuses on European wines and products like artisanal cheese, ham and even honey. The restaurant is something of an all-in-one that serves breakfast in the mornings, transforms into a deli by lunchtime and focuses on wine and Mediterranean small plates come nighttime. Chef Victor Caballe, formerly of Bomba and Vida Vino, heads the kitchen and offers dishes like suckling pig, croquetas and grilled prawns with chili flakes and soya cream sauce.
A Boat Quay chef has transplanted to Gemmill Lane. Chef Francois Mermilliod, formerly of Absinthe, is now setting up shop on the short stretch, but don't worry, it's nothing like O Batignolles. A far cry from the tableclothed Absinthe, Bar-A-Tyhm has plancha-style cooking where seafood will be the main focus. He also plans on offering an omakase-style menu comprising the chef's best dishes. The restaurant is slated to open by end of August.
A longtime favorite of Club Street goers and those who live in the neighborhood, the casual cafe is revamping into a restaurant. While it used to serve salads and sandwiches, Club Street Social will now focus on sophisticated but rustic Spanish-Italian-French sharing plates. There is also a big wine menu as well as barrel-aged cocktails. The space is set to reopen at the end of August.
Luke's Oyster Bar & Chop House takes over the premises formerly occupied by an insurance company. It retains much of the same airy and intimate feel, but the menu will be expanded slightly to include some of its Robinsons' outlet offerings. Don't worry, they won't be moving until October.
The former chef of Osteria Mozza over at Marina Bay Sands is opening his own restaurant. Angeleno (named after what people in Los Angeles are called) is slated to open by mid-November. The space will serve Italian food with a hearty all-American twist, including dishes like veal parmigiana. There's also a focus on wood-grilled meats and pastas, here.
