Bad news for Meatlicious fans: the restaurant will shut down operations this weekend, after one last seating this Friday, Jan 31, according to the Meatlicious Instagram page.

The four-year-old restaurant never quite had the appeal of Gaggan’s highly rated namesake venues, but it did boast a loyal following of its own, largely thanks to its outrageous tomahawk steak. In our 2016 review, we wrote that the Meatlicious tomahawk “puts its now ubiquitous competition to shame.”

While Meatlicious might be shutting down, the space isn’t going to sit vacant. Gaggan has been teasing a new project on his personal Instagram account over the past five weeks. The polarizing chef has boldly proclaimed that he is “bastardizing tortilla meeting a curry [sic]” and opening a home-style Mexican restaurant and curry shop in the same venue. He has also stated that he hopes to keep all prices between B200-600, a far cry from the eye-watering but justifiable prices at Meatlicious.

Details about that new venue haven’t been revealed, but Gaggan has not-so-furtively dropped the name Ms. Maria and Mr. Singh alongside an almost decoupage-style rendering of two characters. It might not roll off the tongue, but we suspect we’ll all be talking about it quite often anyway.
