Char

This spin-off from a Shanghai bar and grill dwells 25 stories above Wireless Road as part of a two-story rooftop complex that’s both restaurant and bar. All told, Char delivers an uncompromised, sophisticated modern steakhouse wallop with amazing views across Bangkok's "Embassy Row."

25-26/F, Hotel Indigo, 81 Witthayu Rd.

Embassy Room

This sleek, French-inspired brasserie boasts a rotating selection of modern European dishes by the hand of executive chef Franck Detrait and chef de cuisine Pierre Tavernier. Like most of the high-end hotel offerings in town, Embassy Room sources its ingredients seasonally, using a combination of local and imported ingredients. It’s BKRW menu is a curated list of some of its finest a la carte offerings, like the succulent honey-glazed pork tenderloin and zucchini cannelloni.

Park Hyatt, 88 Wireless Rd.

Gianni Ristorante

Italian fine dining in Bangkok would not be where it is today without Gianni Favro. The longtime chef has delighted local rainmakers and power movers for the past 20 years with Mediterranean-inflected dishes, educating diners on the nuances of Dover sole, burrata and handmade pasta along the way. The refined setting echoes the restaurant’s reputation.

34/1 Soi Tonson, Phloen Chit Rd.

iO Osteria

Stave off that Italian eatery ennui with iO Osteria, which combines pizzeria, delicatessen, bakery and bar in a single venue. The menu won’t bore you either, giving classic carbonara a truffle twist and taking decadent forays into more esoteric, but still homey, dishes like Korobuta pork tenderloin with fois gras.

1/F, The Groove @ Central World, 999/9 Rama I Rd.

Jamie's Italian

This Italian restaurant by Britain’s biggest celebrity chef fuses British and Italian cuisines, all served in a comfortable setting free of formalities. The menu of bruschetta, beef carpacio, wagyu ribeye and tiramisu won't disappoint.

G/F, Siam Discovery, 989 Rama I Rd.

Medici

From a dining room that looks like an Italian wine cellar tucked into the rusting rafters of an Art Deco skyscraper, Medici fuses the cuisines of Italy's Mediterranean coastline with influences from its neighboring countries. Here they have also combined dinner with theater, from rich operatic performances, to live contemporary jazz, to special event entertainment. The selection of wines, cocktails and spirits remains as extensive as always.

Hotel Muse, 55/555 Langsuan Rd.

Penthouse Bar + Grill

The multi-story showpiece steakhouse atop the Park Hyatt goes all out. The interior of walnut woods and marble is stunning. The menu of red meat and seafood jumps straight to the premium stuff. The cocktails hit the price-to-quality sweet spot. This is prime date-night material.

34-36/F, Park Hyatt, 88 Wireless Rd.

Pizza Massilia (Ruam Rudee)

Inspired by the Neapolitans who emigrated to France and the USA, Italian chef and restaurateur Luca Appino (La Bottega di Luca) takes a cross-continental approach to pizzas. Pumped out of massive ovens from Italy, the pizzas here are delicate and refined affairs that often bear extravagant toppings sourced from Italy and France—think mortadella, truffles and fior di latte.

15/1 Soi Ruamrudee, Phloen Chit Rd.

Taan

Taan runs with Bangkok’s pack of locally focused, innovative-yet-devoutly-Thai restaurants usually found in Charoenkrung back alleys or converted warehouses. There’s only one catch: this one sits inside a perfectly air-conditioned glass box 25 floors above Bangkok in the Siam@Siam hotel. The food is uncompromising, inventive, soulful and balanced. This is another packed menu, filled with exciting creations and a great value drinks package.

25/F, Siam @ Siam Design Hotel, 865 Rama 1 Rd.

The Brasserie

Sitting on the upper lobby of the palatial Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, The Brasserie serves up sharing dishes of beef Bourguignon and other simple French staples to go with craft beer and cider on normal days—if you didn't know, "brasserie" is French for brewery, but often describes venues with a large selection of drinks in general. With plenty of choice ranging from salmon tartare to Australian wagyu striploin, this is the perfect menu for groups with different tastes.

Waldorf Astoria, 151 Ratchadamri Rd.
