As Bangkok Design Week kicks off, the talents behind some of Charoenkrung’s—and Bangkok’s—most exciting kitchens are getting together for a special charity dinner.

Hosted in the center of Charoenkrung Soi 28, 28 Block Party #1: Local Motive - The Communal Table (Sun, Jan 28) sees local-produce champions 80/20 team up with new-school izakaya Jua and nose-to-tail Isaan specialist 100Mahaseth for an eight-course dinner “inspired and designed from local waste around Sriphaya-Talad Noi community.”

What does that mean, exactly? The chefs involved aren’t giving anything away as far as the food goes, but the ticket price of B4,500 (inclusive of three cocktails from the Tropic City team) is for a good cause. The team promises they’ll donate all profit to sustainability initiatives for the Talad Noi community.

The old manufacturing neighborhood of Talad Noi (located around the intersection between Yaowarat and Charoenkrung Roads) has witnessed big changes recently, as young new restaurants and bars have moved into the cheap old shop-house space.

The Communal Table represents the first in a series of events that Soi 28’s new tenants hope will make good on promises to give back in some way to the old community.

This weekend, the same neighborhood also welcomes the start of Bangkok Design Week at P.Tendercool furniture studio, which hosts three exhibitions ranging from bespoke furnishings to photography from Jan 27-Feb 4 daily.

And if you want more from the 80/20 guys, check out their upcoming gastronomy-meets-product-design collaboration at Warehouse 30 with Thinkk Studio on Feb 2-4.
