There's a lot for Bangkok foodies to be excited about this October.

Taste it all 2014 @ Ratchaprasong

Tired of the latest food trends and in the mood for some old-school luxury? Taste it all 2014 @ Ratchaprasong is now under way at seven of the area’s best hotels, and we’re really liking the classic French route some of this year’s chefs are taking. Hugo Coudurier’s menu (B3,900 for two) at Fifty Five (55/F, Centara Grand at CentralWorld, 999/99 Rama1 Rd., 02-100-1234) really stands out. He’s used the “Imperial Delights” theme to put a spin on recipes by old French legend of the kitchen, Alexandre Dumaine. Expect dishes like “Foie Gras Royale” with Mediterranean sea urchin, poached Bresse de poularde and, of course, crepe suzette in Armagnac for dessert. Also check out the similarly classic menu (B1,950 per person) at The Square (6/F, Novotel Platinum Petchaburi, 220 Petchaburi Rd., 02-160-7100), where you can try Napoleon Bonaparte’s favorite dish, Poulet Marengo: chicken sautéed in garlic and tomato with poached egg and truffle. Pullman Hotel

Pullman Hotel’s Wine Pub now serves a whopping 48 wines by the glass thanks to its Vinoteca, a grand wine dispenser which finally means you can get really good wine without having to buy the whole bottle. To preserve the flavor of opened bottles, the machine fills the void between the liquid and the mouth of the bottle with nitrogen. The result: open wine bottles maintain their integrity for a reported three months. The Vinoteca dispenses three different serving measures, so can slurp up some some Cheval Noir (B295 for 12cl) or go crazy with a tiny sip of Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru (B440, 3cl). So Amazing Chefs

From Oct 16-19, Sofitel So Bangkok is hosting the third edition of its So Amazing Chefs program, featuring a lineup of nine visiting chefs including the two-Michelin-star Patrick Jeffroy of L’Hôtel de Carantec, France. The four-day event will feature cooking classes (B2,400) and an eight-course degustation menu on Oct 18 (B7,000 or B8,000 with wine pairing), at which all of the chefs will be cooking. On Oct 17, an Iron Chef-style culinary showdown (B1,900) pits all the chefs against one another. Sofitel So, 2 Sathorn Rd., 02-624-0000. MRT Lumpini. www.sofitel-so-bangkok.com

Ruen Urai

Ruen Urai at the Rose Hotel will be celebrating its eighth anniversary with a new menu focusing on rustic Thai country-style cooking. The Rustic Exploration menu features seven dishes with an emphasis on strong herbs and spices such as green peppercorn, wild ginger, galangal and turmeric. We’re particularly drawn to the grilled river prawns with spicy galangal dressing (B350) and wild boar sautéed with spicy curry and herbs (B350). 118 Surawong Rd., 02-266-8268-72. www.ruen-urai.com
