The clean-diet revolution has propeled healthy fats to the top of the agenda, meaning there’s never been more Thai-made peanut butters on the market.  Forget chemical-laden Jiffy and Skippy, these local brands keep it clean and natural. Here’s the low down on which ones have got us hooked.

Grains (B80)

Probably the thinnest and runniest consistency—yes, it’s easy to spread on toast, but it misses that creamy decadence that we long for in a good PB. The taste is overly sweet with only a subtle hint of saltiness; some of the grainy texture the name promises even seems to be lumps of sugar rather than nuts, which makes it pretty hard to swallow.
Verdict: So sweet it left us sour.

Wealthy (B55)

On opening the jar, we were met with a pool of oil, which is only natural for peanut butter, but the gritty, sticky and dry texture made it almost impossible to stir it together. Its pasty consistency doesn’t spread well, either, and the flavor leaves an oily, salty taste in the mouth.
Verdict: Oil spill.

Mr. Yummies (B89) (Yuck!)

This peanut butter appears to be going for the health-food angle with its roughly blended raw ingredients. Unfortunately its gray tinge, chalky texture and off-putting smell all combine to make this a pretty unpleasant contender.
Verdict: Don’t waste your calories.

Healthy Mate (B69) (BK Pick!)

Hands down the best consistency and flavor. The natural, fresh taste has a hint of roasted flavor, with a satisfyingly chunky texture that still remains soft and creamy. PB&J sandwiches, cookies, salad dressings—we could eat this peanut butter with just about anything.
Verdict: Will you judge if we eat straight out the jar?

Paweenee’s (B99) (Runner Up!)

This dark colored peanut butter has got the most robust, intense flavor of the lot. With a roasted scent and a creamy texture, it comes with a honey-like aftertaste, despite boasting “no added sugar.” It even has hints of Ferrero Rocher, which made total sense once we found out that they’ve added hazelnuts into the mix—lush.
Verdict:  A sophisticated spread.
