Most of us might recognize chef Chomphol Jangprai from his weekly appearances on the popular Iron Chef Thailand. But when he’s not on TV, the man behind the food at the Blue Elephant restaurant group is also Thai culinary director at Anantara Bangkok Riverside. In that role he just launched an all-new concept Sunday brunch that focuses on classic Thai recipes; and before you roll your eyes, we’ve tried it and it’s actually the real deal in terms of flavors and spice levels. Named the Thai Market Brunch, it uses quality ingredients, ranging from imported Wagyu beef, kurobuta pork and Alaskan king crab to organic shrimps from Chantaburi, plaraa (fish sauce) from Singburi and vegetables from the Royal Projects in over 100 classic Thai recipes such as kai palo (stewed egg and pork soup), kaeng som (sweet and sour soup) and its selection of namprik (chili paste). The brunch is B1,400 per person, inclusive of soft drinks, while an additional B400 gets you free-flow local beers and Thai wine. They also have a big children’s club to dump the kids in. Every Sunday, noon-3pm. Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa, Charoennakorn Rd. Soi 61, Thonburi, 02-476-0022 ext. 1416. Free ferry from BTS Saphan Taksin. www.anantara.com
