10 spots to dine at in Clarke Quay while the sun is still up
There’s more to the area than just happy hours and nightlife
There's no denying that Clarke Quay is THE place for a great night out, with fantastic bars and world-renowned nightclubs. But we’ll let you in on a little secret: it’s also one of our favorite daytime destinations, serving up some of the best lunch deals in town. We like that it’s away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD (yay to no snake-long queues!), yet just a five minute walk from Clarke Quay and Fort Canning MRT stations. The area is teeming with quality dining spots—we’ve rounded up 10 you can’t miss out on.
This outdoor eatery specializes in delectable Szechuan cuisine. If you’re a fan of barbequed meats, you’ll love the Northern-style grilled meat and vegetable skewers for dinner. For lunch, the beef la mian are to die for as well, and make for a hearty and satisfying meal to keep you fueled throughout the day.
For an authentic Szechuan hot pot experience, you can’t go wrong with Da Miao. The joint delivers on quality and variety, with up to 12 different soup-based selections. Head there between 11:30am to 5pm on weekdays and enjoy a hotpot set lunch for only $15.80. You’ll get to choose from mains like beef, chicken, fish, and pork with three complimentary side dishes.
This popular cafe has over 60 outlets in Hong Kong, and is famous for its tasty Cantonese dishes. Tsui Wah opened here just a few months back and is the brand’s first outlet in Southeast Asia. Standout items include the Hong Kong milk tea, signature pork chop bun and crispy bun with condensed milk.
This affordable steakhouse, opened early this year by the Astons Group, is known for quality dry-aged and premium steaks. The two-course weekday set lunch is great value and comes with a soup of the day and main course options like ranch open burger (featuring premium beef patties and steak house fries), mushroom linguine or corn-fed French spatchcock.
This ever-reliable bar and restaurant needs no introduction. Whilst better known as a watering hole, the venue’s lunchtime deals are great value-for-money. Weekday promos include 1-for-1 offers on salads, pastas and even burgers! Our go-to is Harry’s jazz burger, made with juicy wagyu beef patty, bacon and double cheese.
One of our personal favorites, thanks to its consistent food and Zen-like atmosphere. You’ll be hard pressed to find better lunch sets too—bentos are priced from $13 to $15 with an appetizer, sashimi, free flow miso soup and rice (with no service charge!). Don sets are also a steal, and start from $11.
Deep-fried skewered dishes (kushikatsu) are the main attraction at this Japanese joint. We’re guessing the generous variety of seafood, meat and vegetable skewers keeps patrons coming back for more. Its latest $12 set lunch deal (from 12-2pm) is worth shouting about too—you get beef, pork, lotus root, asparagus and onion kushikatsus with mini kobachi, niku sushi, rice and choice of hot/iced green tea!
Over at this Irish pub, quintessential bar items like chicken wings, baby back ribs and burgers are equally savory during the day. You can also dig into comfort Irish fare like McGettigan’s full Irish breakfast or Irish brie. The pub’s emphasis on traditional Irish hospitality will have you feeling right at home as well.
The famed local establishment is perhaps best known for their fresh zi char seafood dishes like Chilli Crab and Lobster Noodles. But for lunch, on offer are an addictive selection of dim sum, made even more irresistible with a smashing 20 percent discount only for the dim sum menu.
If you’re in the mood for local fare, this bak kut teh eatery is a must-go. The bak kut teh here is the real deal—hot, spicy and served in a traditional claypot. A set goes for only $10 on weekdays, and includes two sides with rice. Another value alternative is the chicken rice set, also $10 with four sides, a soup and barley.
