While The Standard has been making headlines for its new flagship property in Mahanakhon recently, the brand has held a luxury property in Hua Hin since last year. If you are in that neck of the woods this weekend, check out its latest collaboration with Hay, a Scandinavian furniture company that’s unveiling its Palissade Park and Balcony collections at the resort on May 14. On top of showing off the latest wares, the exhibition will also feature a “Music & Mixology” cocktail party at the resort’s Lido Bar, where Bangkok-based DJ Rhunrun will spin hip-hop, electronic, and dance beats. They’ve been holding special cocktail and aperitivo events since April, but the last one will be this Saturday (B1,500/person). 

The restaurant stands out easily as the only Japanese-style house in Ekkamai’s Acmen complex, Gen goes well beyond its grilled chicken-specializing sister to serve up a wider variety of meat grilled on binchotan charcoal. While the free-range chicken still stands as one of the stars (try the slightly-roasted breast with yuzu kosho paste), the restaurant also does some fine Japanese wagyu.

The Masa Group is at it again with a third opening, this time a sumibiyaki (charcoal-grilled) and Kansai-style sukiyaki restaurant in Phrom Phong. The venue channels a quaint Kyoto home with zen gardens, and Sarisa Narupakorn says she was inspired to launch the original Suki Masa by her and her daughter passion for Japanese cuisine. While the venue is still in a soft launch period, you can expect plenty of Kansai-style sukiyaki, shabu shabu, nabe kimchi, butter yaki, nabe, and more to fill your belly during visits.
