You are obviously an influence to many artists, who inspired you?
My inspirations come from legendary artists such as Toots and the Maytals, Bob Marley, Big Youth and U-Roy. They made me want to be like them.
What’s kept you together over the decades?
We are brothers and have always been close, along with our little brother Supa Dan. We played football together, raved together, so it was easy to start the Ragga Twins because there is a family relationship and a brotherly love, and we know each over so well, plus we get on like friends.
What are some of your fond memories of the early days?
It was a new dawn, a new adventure, every day learning something new about this new sound, meeting different people and adjusting to the new tracks we were working on. Going to raves was a new experience as well with people wanting to get autographs and photos, so it was very pleasing and refreshing.
How would you describe each other’s style?
Our styles are not that too dissimilar because we learn off each other. We complement each other. Lyrically we are both astute and like to keep things fresh. I think we have the same ethics towards MCing, and Flinty can do faster styles than me, as I like to keep it more down to earth, but there is not too much to call.
You recently worked with Skrillex; what was that like?
Working with Skrillex was an experience like no other; his ideas were off the chain. The way he works, the things he does to get certain sounds were different from anybody I’d ever worked with. It was a pleasure working with him because, for a big producer, he made us feel at home in the studio and let us do what we do best. It’s comfortable to sit down on the riddims. It was one for our scrap book and one I could be extremely pleased about.
Are you working on any projects at the moment?
We are so busy at the moment with so many things. Firstly, we have the Skrillex project, then we have our own album we’re putting the finishing touches to. Plus we have just released our new video, "Deadly Zone," which is about where we come from, Hackney. We are doing a best of album with four new tracks with Aquasky, some work with our crew, The Ragga Twins Crew with MC Co-Gee, Pedro Slimmer And Mtek illa Killa, an EP and an album, plus some mix tapes. There are loads of other producers we’re working with, so we’re really busy right now in the studio.
