Shang Palace (Shangri-la Hotel Bangkok, 89 Soi Wat Plu, 02-236-7777) is hosting five Chinese chefs who have been flown in from the soon-to-open Shangri-la Hotel at Qufu, the hometown of Confucius. All of them will be cooking local dishes, inspired by the cuisine of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Some might sound familiar but the presentation will extoll Chinese values such as Wisdom Frees Perplexity (braised pork ribs stuffed with spring onion stalk, B860) and Confucius Four Supreme Bowls (braised chicken, fish, pork and roll of minced chicken breast and prawns wrapped with seaweed, B1,320). Choose from 25 a la carte dishes from Mar 9-15.
