Jitti Chompee’s performance at PTendercool’s warehouse, in a dead-end alley off Charoenkrung Soi 30 (www.ptendercool.com), was a revelation. It wasn’t just the on-stage masturbation and animal screams of the performers (and the occasional moments of grace), but the feeling that this little soi could be the start of something big. PTendercool makes tables. Really massive, gorgeous tables. The Belgian owner has both a shop in a dour art deco building and a mini-warehouse space facing it. Next door, two more Belgians are behind Warp 54 Studio, home to the neon pop portraits of Christian Develter. And all these fine gentlemen are welcoming bold performances in their lofty, gritty spaces, so that Jitti’s antics could well be followed by equally exciting artistic mayhem. We promise to keep you posted.
