What's been a go-to place for the Malay community in Singapore for the rental of traditional wear and musical instruments, tailoring of festive outfits and Malay cultural performances will be closed in two weeks on September 26.
This is to make way for the Wisma Geylang Serai, a 10,000 square-meter civic center that's expected to hold a community club, the Malay Heritage Gallery, as well as other community-related facilities. The roadworks are due for completion in June next year.
The remaining 10 tenants of the Malay Village (or "Kampong Melayu" as it is known in Malay) will be holding clearance sales this weekend and the next.
