Get your sushi fix at these 6 Bangkok restaurants
With dine-in finally resuming, treat yourself to the one type of food that really needs to be eaten inside the restaurant.
Owned by the same team behind the popular yakiniku (barbeque) joint Niku-King, Sushi Hiro sports a Japanese fisherman village-inspired décor and serves up fresh, handmade sushi. Splurge on chutoro (fatty tuna) or taraba crab, or choose more pocket-friendly freshwater eel, sea bream and salmon. They're also big proponents of the uber-popular one-kilo salmon nigiri trays you find all over Bangkok.
899 Phahonyothin Rd, 065-715-3307. Open daily 11am-10pm
Another one of those sushi joints that is not afraid of a little experimentation for the sake of flavors. Masu Maki pairs the same fresh seafood you are used too at quality sushi joints with all manner of out-of-the-box ingredients, like truffles, spring roll pastry, and foie gras. All of this is done with presentation standards that would make other restaurants blush with envy (look at their IG if you don’t believe us). It’s not all out-there rolls, though. You’ll find a wide range of the familiar stuff here—tuna nigiri, dragon rolls, salmon maki and California rolls, among others. We’re too scared to try the “Hell Salmon Maki” but it comes with a flaming shot if you are into that.
Sukhumvit 39, 081-838-0220. Open daily 11am-9:30pm (note, all restaurants in Bangkok must close at 8pm under current lockdown measures)

An uber-favorite of Thonglorites and wider Bangkok for ages, Isao usually has a line-up of eagerly awaiting diners at the door before opening in the evening, and for good reason. Known for a fun, fusion-y style of sushi that sees the likes of dragon and rainbow rolls garnished to look like caterpillars, but don’t like that belie the quality here. Ingredients are top-notch and so is the preparation.
5, Sukhumvit 31, 02-258-0645. Open daily 11am-8pm (note, all restaurants in Bangkok must close at 8pm under current lockdown measures)
This premium Japanese restaurant has over 200 dishes on its menu, and delves into the worlds of sukiyaki, sushi rolls, nigiri and those elite-level steaks Japan has become so famous for. All of the ingredients on the menu are imported directly by the restaurant itself without a middleman, and one could argue that adds an extra layer of quality to the offering.

This sushi mecca sells a wide range of high-quality fish flown in weekly from Toyosu market. The sashimi platter is a must-try, featuring two types of tuna, salmon, octopus, surf clams, hamachi and more. We also love the grilled razor clams in soy sauce and the unagi dragon roll.
17, 19 Thonglor Soi 23 , 02-185-1447. Open daily 9am-10pm

Getting a seat at this phenomenally successful little chain of sushi restaurants always comes with a long wait, but that's testament to its quality. Generous chunks of sashimi, crispy and rich unary, and crunchy and juicy rolls are the namesake here. It’s a popular place, so it might take some time for the food to arrive, but the wait is definitely worth it.
983 Bang Na-Trat Rd., 062-556-6266. Open daily 11am-10pm. Nine other branches across Bangkok.
