The OG of fancy Bangkok food festivals turns 20 this year
And it's released it's Michelin star-studded 2019 lineup.
September is lining up to be a bumper month for food events in Bangkok. In addition to the second coming of BK Restaurant Week (this year with over 60 venues and three-course dinners from just B750), Anantara Siam has now announced the lineup for its annual World Gourmet Festival.
It’s been 20 years since the five-star hotel began WGF, in which time the event has been responsible for bringing some of the world’s biggest chefs to Bangkok.
This year’s event, held from Sep 2-8, features 16 names holding 13 Michelin stars between them. You will have the chance to dine with Kai Ho from Tairroir in Taipei, or Wolfgang Becker from the two-Michelin-star Becker’s restaurant in Germany, or how about the friendly face of Richie Lin from Mume, Taiwan?
Each chef will host two dinners in one of the hotel’s restaurants: Biscotti, Madison, Spice Market or Shintaro.
In a first for the World Gourmet Festival, Anantara will be showcasing why Bangkok is known for its stree-tfood with a gathering of Bangkok’s most popular vendors in the Parichart open-air garden courtyard (Sep 5).
As usual, the hugely popular World Gourmet Brunch will be held on Sep 8. You will also have the chance to attend master cooking classes by all the visiting chefs (we’re looking forward to learning the pastry skills of Dutch chef Roger van Damme from Het Gebaar in Antwerp, Belgium, who was awarded the Best Pastry Chef in the World in 2017).
Dinner prices start at B5,500. Make reservations at www.worldgourmetfestival.asia, where you’ll also find full details and prices.
If you have the time and money, the hotel is also offering packages from B18,000/night that include accommodation, breakfast, and a table for two at a guest chef’s dinner each night of the stay period.
