8 hot new restaurants to check out this June
From exotic Georgian and elegant Chinese, to a day-drinking paradise and a hipster dessert cafe.
This Georgian-Greek restaurant brings exotic Transcaucasian and Mediterranean flavors to the table, in a space adorned with kilim rugs and faux grapevines. Tingle your taste buds with delicacies like the khinkali (B70/piece)—plump dumplings filled with organic beef and aromatic spices that hail from Georgia’s mountain regions—or the unusual satsivi (B190), a cold chicken dish served in walnut sauce. Don’t miss the acharuli khachapuri (B250), a boat of sweet dough cradling oozing cheese and a runny egg yolk.

Redefining Chinese fine-dining, Nan Bei is set apart by its opulent yet youthful contemporary Art Deco interiors. Led by their Beijingese chefs, the menu of authentic northern and southern Chinese specialties charts peanutty gong bao chicken (B480), a fresh chilled jellyfish salad (B480), Peking duck carved tableside and a gorgeously light and milky mango pomelo sago (B290) for dessert. And to drink? Indulge in their special tea and whiskey pairing menu—try the sweet and smoky Macallan 18 paired with the earthy, chocolatey non-smoked lapsang (B800).
19/F, Rosewood, 1041/38 Phloen Chit Rd., 020-800-088
Enjoy an afternoon in Thonglor's new communal garden, where a Commons-y set up lets you order food from a range of vendors, selling everything from cookies to local beef. For a fresh starter, try the pomelo prawn salad (B180) before loading up on protein with a roasted organic chicken from Khao Yai (B590/half; B990/whole). Strewn with bean bags, the lawn is prime real estate for day drinking, though there's an indoor space for air-con comfort too. They offer free-flow wine for just B480 between 6:30-8:30pm Tue-Sun. Not bad at all.

Hong Kong-born chef Anita Tang left her Chinese restaurant on Phuket to open this 16-seat private kitchen, where she experiements with Chinese and European flavors. A tailored six-course private dinner could cost as little as B1,000, and might see plump scallops on a bed of asparagus with ginger and carrot puree; Chinese dumplings stuffed with garlicky mushrooms and thyme; or billowing raspberry soufflé topped with crunchy pistachios.
Though born in the southern Japanese prefecture of Ehime, Shugetsu Ramen is arguably just as well known for its pioneering role in introducing tsukemen (cold ramen noodles) to Hong Kong. Amid a clean, minimalist space, customers get to choose both noodle portion size (from 100-400 grams) and firmness for dishes like their signature tsukemen (B225), featuring juicy cuts of chashu (pork belly), a soft-boiled egg and 18-month fermented soy sauce. Also on the menu are the likes of abura soba (B195), a soup-free bowl flavored with dried, powdered fish, scallop oil and chashu, and the spicy kara miso ramen (B195).
2/F, The 49 Terrace, Sukhumvit Soi 49, 080-303-9999
There's more to this seemingly humble Chinese eatery than first meets the eye. Hidden upstairs, you'll find a striking restaurant and a bar that looks as if it's been plucked straight out of Hong Kong, with cute laundry hanging by the window to complete the look. How’s the food? We love the stir-fried pig’s stomach with pickled mustard greens (B140), as well as the cured egg spicy salad (B100). The drinks are even better—try the Train To 2046 (B360) with Chinese flower-sous-vide rum, lemon and grapefruit bitters and bak kut teh syrup; it might sound weird but it tastes good, trust us.

By the people behind furniture brand Minotti, this showroom-like Italian restaurant strikes you first with its artsy curation of vibrant home accessories and neon artwork. Comfort food by chef Antonio Facchinetti, formerly of Anantara Riverside, spotlights house-made pasta in fresh pomodoro fresco sauce (B420) and quality meat in the juicy 1,500g Tuscany Fiorentina (B3,500) steak. To drink, we recommend the Italian Lugana D.O.C from Lombardia (B300/glass) or the Pinot Grigio from Friuli (B250/glass).
