BANGKOK RESTAURANT

The 51 Tasty Moments

You're spoiled for choice at this communal F&B garden.

The buzz: Thonglor's welcomes another one of those Commons-y, kiosk places where you order your food from a range of vendors to enjoy in a big, open communal space.

The decor: This single-floor space comes complete with a spacious lawn with big trees and bean bags—just made for day drinking. High ceilings and big windows ensure the indoor area feels like one bright and airy living room. If you're worried about sweating, take a spot by the big glass wall inside where you enjoy the greenery in air-con comfort. All the art pieces and furniture can be purchased through a partnership with LF Furniture and Adler Art Gallery.

The food: The various stalls here sell cookies, local beef and everything in between. For a fresh starter, try the pomelo prawn salad (B180). Load up on protein with a roasted chicken (B590 for half; B990 for whole) from the free-range Klong Phai farm in Khao Yai. Fusion tastes are catered for with a range of pasta dishes given Asian twists like khao soi (Thai northern curry) pork pasta (B170) or sai ua (Thai northern sausage) pasta (B180). For some easy drinking snacks, opt for a platter of three cheeses and three cold cuts for B680 or take the Mediterranean route with a mixed board of goodies (B390 for three dishes; B590 for five).

The drinks: Go for the B930 (net) bottles of wine (or B190/glass), stick around for the happy hour (4-7pm): B60 draft Asahi, B100 glasses of wine and B120 G&Ts and cocktails. They also offer free-flow wine for B1,980 between 5-8pm. The full wine list comprises some 50 labels. Local beers start range from B90-240 with cocktails B210-260.

The crowd: There's a real community vibe, so expect everyone from millennials drinking outdoors from midday through to groups of oldies brunch among friends.

Why we’d come back: Since the closure of Soi 47’s Freebird, this part of town has lacked the kind of open, green space that's ripe for weekend chilling. With its diverse menu, 51 Tasty Moments well and truly fills the void.
