Just end already.

Bronx

The follow-up project from ex-Vogue Lounge frontman Hideyuki Saito was supposed to turn Thonglor on to cocktails made with oil, served with tasty treats on the side in a space that referenced New York jazz bars. Then he had a baby—and moved back to Japan.

Cheap Charlies (Soi 11)

Expat drinkers were left in a cheap-Sukhumvit-bar wilderness back in March, when the legendary dive bar became victim to the real estate bubble. Good news! It’s now open once more on On Nut. Better news! You don’t have to “stay inside the line” anymore.

Cloud 47

Yes, it still existed up until 2017, and no, we hadn’t been there in years either. But for a while, Cloud 47 represented the affordable face of this city’s rooftop drinking culture—with a delicious side order of gab glaem.

Crying Thaiger

Daniel Thaiger burgers and Opposite Mess Hall’s old hipster digs—what could go wrong? New fire escape laws, that’s what. Boo safety! *Closing Dec 22

Dark Bar

The closure of alt-culture kingpin Nod Tatong’s clandestine Ekkamai digs has left an after-hours-shaped hole in the neighborhood’s party scene. Word on its comeback TBC.

Figure 8

For a couple months, Ratchadamri had something approaching a gothic cocktail bar: waxy candles, red leather booths, heavy curtains, Japanese shibari rope bondage-inspired art. It wasn’t meant to be, and the partners have already gone their separate ways.

Little Beast

Serving Thonglor with modern American small plates since 2013—which is basically the same as the 1800s in Thonglor years. *Closing Dec 31

Little Market

Before we’d reached Peak Charoenkrung, this shop-house spot on Soi 28 made a case for Yankee-style fast food burgers, tater tots and neon pink signage. Now the area’s transforming into a nightlife hub, that sounds like exactly what we want round about 2am on a Friday night.

Live RCA

The closure of this dedicated gig venue in June was perhaps the final nail in the coffin for the once-buzzing RCA party strip. We’ll always have our memories of squeezing in like sardines to see Crystal Castles and Of Montreal.

The Locker Room

Five mixology superstars, incredible cocktails, a wall of grungy lockers—the last six months of 2017 belonged to this Thonglor speakeasy, even with a complete lack of social media presence. Last month, The Locker Room claimed the title of Bangkok’s Best Drinks at our first B.A.D. Awards, however it wasn’t to last. *Closing Dec 31

Rocket S49

Bangkok’s Scandinavian-style brunch pioneer, Rocket, is now down to two branches (the original in Sathorn and a smaller grab-and-go spot at MRT Thailand Cultural Center) after rental wrangles (what else?) put an end to its oh-so-chic Piman 49 enclave. Don’t count on Sukhumvit remaining Rocket-free for too long, though don’t expect to see any apron-clad Sorums patroling the premises—they’ve cashed out.
