Despite glimmers of literary enthusiasm in Singapore, such as the Speakeasy and SPEAK poetry series, BooksActually's book vending machine, regular readers and the two year-old handsome $25,000 Epigram Fiction Prize being awarded to first-time novelist Nuraliah Norasid back in November, knowledge of and interest in Singapore literature continues to lag, and Singaporean book publishers continue to take a hit. That's where this month's #BuySingLit weekend comes in.

In a bid to raise the profile of English, Chinese, Tamil and Malay literature written and published in Singapore, the NAC and over 30 partners, including literary non-profits, publishers and booksellers are teaming up for a weekend of over 40 literary activities, Feb 24-26. It's seriously the biggest concerted effort we've seen, other than SWF (Singapore Writers Festival), and everyone from Times and Select to BooksActually and Kinokuniya to Epigram and Tamil-language publisher Crimson Earth is all in this together.

Highlights include concurrent book fairs at Raffles City (MPH), Forum (Woods in the Books), Gillman Barracks (BooksActually) and other places, afternoon tea with political writer and memoirist Catherline Lim at the Singapore Cricket Club and a reading of local love poems at the National Gallery Singapore.
