Food meets fashion at this event in the eastern heartlands of Singapore
Wear what you don't eat.
Instead of throwing away your leftovers and expired canned food at home, get inspired by The Food Bank Singapore's initiative to raise awareness on foodwaste, Project X-pired, as it returns with its third edition at Tampines 1 on Oct 22-23. This year's theme? Wearable fashion.
Food waste has been reported by the National Environment Agency to be exceedingly high in 2015. Findings show that Singaporeans wasted 785,500 tonnes of food, and only 13% of it was recycled, and that's a problem. As part of their efforts to create more awareness on this seemingly increasing problem, The Food Bank Singapore launched a number initiatives to involve the community. For Project X-pired, which has similar format as Project Runway (sans glitz and glamour), participants are required to use food wrappers and packaging to create pieces of wearable clothes. Shortlisted entries will be featured in an environmentally-friendly fashion show, and will be auctioned off to the public. A portion of the profits will be donated to The Food Bank Singapore.
