Salted egg yolk macarons ARE actually a thing in Bangkok
The people get what the people want. Kinda.
Our instantly viral April Fools’ joke saying that Dean & DeLuca now serves salted egg lava macarons provided vital market research for this city’s entrepreneurial bakers. This is one treat that the population of Bangkok wants and wants badly.
And now it appears our scurrilous rumors aren't completely untrue.
Turns out pastry chef Arisara “Paper” Chongphanitkul of Issaya La Patisserie has been making her salted egg macaron, which looks kinda like one half of a boiled salted egg, for several months now. No yolk, you can get one of these at B65 a piece. Too bad they're not particularly oozing, but this is Issaya so the flavor is spot on.
Thank you chef Ian Kittichai for reminding us with this Instagram post.
