Including some we bet you've never heard of before.

Craft Singapore takes place this weekend (Mar 4-6) and among the 200 beers on offer are the creations of seven local microbreweries. Here’s what you need to know about them.

Archipelago Brewery

They might be known as the craft beer wing of big boys Asia Pacific Breweries, but Archipelago has proven time and time again that they mean business when it comes to making good beer. They have a main range of straightforward beers – think Belgian Wit, Bohemian Lager and Summer Ale – supplemented by quirky limited editions and experimental small batch brews.

Try: The current limited edition X-Bock along with small batch brews Kaypoh Bitter and Root Beer Lager.

Beerfest

Arriving on our shores from the Russian Far East by way of Pattaya, Beerfest’s peculiar story continues with their beers and what they do with them. Their range of drinks includes Greenpiece, a green-colored, spirulina-infused lager, and the Cola Weizen cocktail made with a blend of their Golden Wheat and… cola.

Try: Cherry Ruby, a lager brewed with fresh cherries.

Brewerkz

What hasn’t been said about the granddaddy of microbreweries in Singapore? Two decades on from their foundation and they still keep us liberally soaked in Golden Ale, Oatmeal Stout and XIPA. Their rotating line-up of seasonal beers is always exciting and their menu is made up of the heartiest of hearty pub grub.

Try: Mandarina Bavaria IPA from their educational Single Hop series – a range of beers that highlights the flavor and aroma profiles of different hop varieties.

Innocence Brewing

We’ll be honest, these guys are so new that the only information we’ve been able to unearth is their business registration record. Craft Singapore marks their first public appearance and we're excited!

Little Island Brewing Co

Little Island isn’t even a year old but they’re already responsible for some of Singapore most rockin’ beers. Their That Old Black Magic dry Irish stout, Sister Golden Ale and Ruby Tuesday red ale offer the complete package of style and flavor.

Try: Islay Porter, a beastly 7.8% abv seasonal beer that sells out as quickly as they can make it.

On Tap

Craft beer in kopitiams and hawker centres isn’t a new trend, but On Tap has changed the game with their pricing. You can knock back one of their brews from just $5.50 a glass all-day, every day. And don’t think that means they scrimp on quality – their English Bitter, Dunkel and Porter can tangle with the best.

Try: On Tap is one of the few microbreweries in Singapore that can boast about their own cider; be sure to check it out.

Paulaner Brauhaus

Taking a 180 from what you’d expect of a microbrewery, Paulaner Brauhaus was transplanted here with its Bavarian roots intact. Only traditional Munich favorites are poured here and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Try: “The father of all strong beers”, the seasonal Salvator Doppelbock has been brewed by Paulaner for four centuries.

Craft Singapore takes places from Mar 4 to 6. Tickets are available from $95 through Sistic.
