5 cool outdoor markets happening in Singapore this month
Organic produce, kefir water, free secondhand goodies and more.
February is the month for farmers' markets, because there are at least three coming your way (the people behind Loewen, Open Farm Community and In Touch Concepts are going all out.) Apart from lots of organic goodies, there artwork, film screenings and the option to participate and give back. Have a look:
Loewen Gardens' Farmers' Market is back again, this time with more fresh vegetables and fruits, and lots more. The line-up isn't confirmed yet (sigh), The Pantry is serving coffee, so go chill with a cup of joe.
Spa Esprit restaurant Open Farm Community is back with its third social market. This time, everyone should come with their own tote bag to pack the spoils they got for the day. Among the list of vendors are The Wright Cheese Company, who make their own cheeses (yes, they're local), RO Dishes with home cooked Romanian food and Selva Foods serving their Acai power berry bowls. If you come in the morning, there are pilates and yoga workshops at 9am and 10am respectively.
If you can't get enough of Farmers' Markets, there is another one by In Touch Concepts, where you'll network and talk shop with the Foodscape Collective about growing your own herbs and vegetables. You'll also learn about how bees are important, and check out produce by the Singapore Young Farmers. There will also be nut butter, jam, kefir water and coconut oil for sale.
The 40th edition of this really really free market is back at Jurong Central Park (which is close to Jalan Boon Lay, if you're directionally challenged). You know the drill; come with stuff you don't want to give to people in need. Apart from the ol' books, CDs and goods, there will be people cutting hair, doing tarot card reading, or writing poetry. You can also give back at this market, too.
