The Singapore Biennale is coming back in October
There's life after Singapore Art Week.
If you're a little bereft that Singapore Art Week is ending this weekend, hang tight for the return of Singapore Biennale after a three-year hiatus. (Yes, we know biennale means every two years.) From Oct 28-Feb 26, the new biennale will be four months long with site-specific artwork displayed at the Singapore Art Musem, Queen Street and likely surrounding areas.
The obligatory abstract, esoteric-sounding theme this year is Atlas of Mirrors, meant to explore the connections among Southeast Asian cultures. There's work by Malaysian mixed-media artist Ahmad Fuad Osman, Rathin Barman from India known for socio-politically commentary and our Cultural Medallion Han Sai Por, who is known for her Seeds series. We're also excited about the inclusion of Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook from Thailand, who did those amazing videos on Thai farmers commenting on European pastoral art.
It seems like the list is pretty exhaustive so far, with artists from China, The Philippines, Myanmar and Thailand, too. The full line-up of artists and the list of work at the fair will be released later, so watch this space.
