3 cool local indie fests coming up in Bangkok
Following the retro-tastic Cat to the Future in early May, two of Bangkok’s most exciting record labels, Rat Records and Parinam Music, will present mini-festivals of their own.
The month of May kicks of with Cat Radio presents Cat to the Future, throwback concert to the good old days of Fat Festival. Some of the most influential bands of the 90s-alternative era will be present, including Proud, Siam Secret Service, Ornaree and Futon. May 2, 6pm. Impact Arena, 99 Popular Rd., 02-833-4455. B1,500

One day later it's the time for young blood. One of the most-prominent record labels in Bangkok’s independent music scene, Rats Records now presents their first proper concert in collaboration with music blog Sep Sakol (www.fb.com/addictmusic). The Cross Proje[x]t Concert will feature Rats' favorites Part Time Musicians, The Whitest Crow, Phum Viphurit and, our favorite, the long-absent, Dot. Unsigned experimental ambient act White Light will open, while party pioneer Lady Soma will take over the decks afterwards.

Another mini-fest to look forward to is Parinam Music’s first official concert, Pow! Fest, which will also welcome guests from fellow indie labels Smallroom and Panda Records. Electronic pop act Gym & Swim will make its first live appearance since signing for Parinam, while others on the line-up include Slur, The Fin, Summer Dress, Seal Pillow, Aire, Hariguem Zaboy, Wave and So, Fwends and Safe Planet.
