Sneak peek at Bangkok’s new voodoo bar in On Nut
Voodoo dolls, cocktails, and the sexy swamp style of Something Wicked.
Have your cocktails made on a ouija board, listen to faux frogs on the porch, and laze with bedazzled skulls and voodoo dolls under the gaze of Baron Samedi. Welcome to Bangkok’s only voodoo-inspired cocktail bar.
Now under a soft open from Wednesday to Sunday with a truncated menu, Something Wicked is found behind a blood red door squeezed between shophouses in On Nut. The bar's outside sets the stage with the sound of bayou frogs—a magic touch for those cheeky cigarettes between cocktails. Inside blues play over black woods and red sofas.
Opening at 7pm to late, the cocktails—or “potions”—under bar manager Susan van der Mespel go for B200 to 350. Two floors will be unveiled when the venue finally opens in March, but for now the ground floor flaunts a playful, theatrical homage to the mythology around the Witch Queen of New Orleans.
For those who’ve already cut their teeth on the Bangkok booze scene, it’ll come as no surprise that the unusual design of this hot new swamp spot comes from the macabre mind behind Hair of the Dog, Mike MacDonald.
Visitors to this new On Nut voodoo sanctum sanctorum can expect a cheerful atmosphere and a staff gothed out to the nines.
Oh, and there’s a snake.
