From the mind behind GulpBkk comes the Green Door, a stylish speakeasy with a prohibition theme and high-end drinks opened earlier this month.
However, it’s not more brass handles, flapper fashion, and jazz—the Green Door is meant to reflect Thailand’s own little form of prohibition that has been annoying mid-day drinkers since 1972. The design, too, is awash in modern Thai design touches, from the filigree green door to Thailand Miss Universe 1988.
The name—which you might know from watching old prohibition movies—is indicative of a spot serving booze during US prohibition in Chicago (and still is). Found in a shop in Sathorn with a patio leading to their own green door, the spot is a retail space turned into a retail speakeasy.
Previously the brains behind 1826 Mixology and Rooftop Bar on Sukhumvit Soi 18, head mixologist and GM Stephen Pinto from Mumbai joined Gulpbkk with his vision for the Green Door, serving classic cocktails and Thai nostalgia.
Along with classic cocktails, look for the Insta-friendly likes of the Som Summer Ball (B400) with a frozen Pipo candy garnish, and the @tgd (B400), featuring clarified milk punch with Thai tea flavors and a chocolate wafer. There is also bar food to go with the cocktails, including Thai-produced artisanal charcuterie and cheeses.
