Go for the drinks, stay for food, and stay even longer for the view.

From Tulum Sky Bar to Akara Sky Hanuman, big architectural centerpieces are the in thing for rooftop bars these days, and the new Sanctuary on the 34th floor of the Intercontinental Sukhumvit is sticking to that trend with an Insta-friendly design that takes its cues from traditional Thai architecture.

Sanctuary held its grand opening last weekend, and has a largely open area covered in a whopping great wooden structure that you won’t miss, under which the bartenders and servers work away from the elements while drinkers take in the views from the outside seating or at the bar.

The cocktails also pay homage to Thai ingredients, such as the Pandan, a whiskey-based drink that veers hard to sweet. The cocktail menu here comes from Tei by O’bond, and the drinks follow very Thai flavors with international tipple. Check out the Hua Goong for your shrimp cocktail fix.

If you’re into the bar bites, the cold cut platter comes with plenty to keep you full with the drinks, but for something a little heartier, you can delve into their beef tongue or Gillardeau oysters.

Visitors take the elevator up to the 34th floor and walk down a short corridor lined with greenery that opens up on your left to expansive views of the downtown Bangkok skyline.

34/F, Intercontinental Sukhumvit, 098-279-9365. Open daily 5pm-late.
