Listen to the spaced-out debut single from Rats Records' Henri Dunant
This track sounds like nothing else coming out in Thailand right now.
Thai indie label Rats Records has just unveiled its latest signing, Henri Dunant, whose debut single sounds like nothing else on the local music scene.
"Nick of Time" (feat. The Good Day Ghosts) boasts a strong trip-hop feel and reverb-soaked vocals that remind us of Lana Del Rey, only more upbeat. The high-pitched guitar sound and anthemic chorus also bring to mind Two Door Cinema Club. Such comparison points don't really do this dark and driving track justice, though.
Henri Dunant is the project of Max Jenmana, who chose the quirky alias in reference to the Red Cross founder and everything he did for Thailand (of course, Bangkok also has a road named after Dunant). The lyrics deal with a stressed time in Max's life when his thoughts turned to the happier times he previously experienced with his two good friends (aka "The Good Day Ghosts"). Deciding to do something fun together again, the trio came up with "Nick of Time," which features lines like "December skies remind me of you," a reference to the fact all three were born in December.
Keep an eye out for Henri Dunant's full album to come next year on Rats Records. Watch the moody video for "Nick of Time" below:
