New experimental music festival to debut in Bangkok this March
Experimental Electronic South East project aiming to promote experimental artists from Southeast Asian countries.
The two-day festival will take place on Mar 21-22 at Stereo Bar (4236, Rama 4 Rd. Phra Kanong) with a focus on electronic, noise, ambient, IDM and experimental music plus visuals and workshops.
Headlining the long lineup are Thai electronic duo Stylish Nonsense, So::On Dry Flower founder Koichi Shimizu and double-neck guitar soloist Thom AJ Madson. Other highlights include Space 360, Deathtrip (ex-member of 90s alt-duo Day Tripper), The Sticky Rice and Kijjaz, while new names like Cut the Crab abd DCNXTR are also worth catching.
International acts include founder of the Buddha Machine Christiaan Virant aka FM3 from Hong Kong, Vietnamese experimental performer Dee.f and Chiang Mai-based US solo act Awkward Binoculars.
The festival is the work of a familiar name--in Thai experimental circles, anyway. Founded in 2008, independent organizer Delicate has given a platform to experimental groups covering everything from post-rock to electro to dub and noise through their annual Delicate Decibel event.
Auttaratt also aims to take the festival to Hanoi and other hot cities in the region.
Ticket prices are still TBA, but stay tuned to BK for more updates or vist https://www.facebook.com/eese2014 for more information.
Update: Phra Khanong really is on the rise. Now, Stereo Bar is set to move to a new three-story building next to Aspire Condominium on Rama 4 Road (next to Kluay Nam Thai intersection), and will open in time for the first night of the EESE Festival (Mar 21-22). The new venue promises a simlar space-age atmosphere but will also host more in the way of music workshops.
