One of Bangkok's coolest hidden cocktail bars, Bronx Liquid Parlour, is no more, with its spot on Thonglor Soi 25 set to house the second coming of Black jazz bar.

Bronx's head bartender Hideyuki Saito, winner of the Bacardi Legacy Thailand 2017 competition, is now set to move back to Japan, but the bar's other partner has decided to keep the concept alive. A new location in Thonglor is in the pipelines, which we're told will be on the odd number side of the street.

Now for the good news: the same spot is getting transformed into a jazz bar called Black. The guy behind it is Idris Dawud, a trumpet player from New York who has been living in Thailand for the past 15 years. He's also the son of Talib Dawud, a trumpeter who played with Art Blakey and Thelonious Monk in the legendary The Jazz Messengers, while his step-mom is jazz singer Dakota Staton, best known for her 1957 hit "The Late, Late Show."

If the name "Black" sounds familiar, you may remember the bar from its brief existence on Sukhumvit Soi 33 back in 2012. Promising to offer an uncompromising alternative to staid hotel lounge jazz, the new opening will serve up a range of different sounds, from improv to big beat. Stay tuned for a soft launch opening on Jul 28 or 29.
