Who knew, mixing chaa with booze actually makes sense (Long Island Iced Tea doesn’t count). Here’s where to get a taste.

Supanniga Eating Room

This much-loved Thai restaurant has teamed up with local tea brand Tichaa by Harnn to create special mocktails and cocktails available until the end of October. First up is Love Berry (B140), a mocktail that mixes white mulberry and black rice tea with raspberry syrup and is garnished with mint leaves. For added punch, the Wild Jasmine (B240) adds vodka and honey to white mulberry tea smoked with jasmine, while Tichaa Rose (B260) combines white mulberry tea, lemongrass, Bombay gin and rose syrup.

160/11 Sukhumvit Soi 55. 02-714-7508. Open Tue-Sun 11:30am-2:30pm and 5:30pm-11:30pm. BTS Thong Lo.

Rock Restaurant and Bar

Joseph Boroski is behind the cocktail list at this Ari establishment. Like the food menu, the drinks also put a lot of focus on Asian flavors, with quite a few Chinese touches, in particular. Order the Kunming Tourist Trap (B280), which mixes Chinese tea with gin, Chinese rose jam and passion fruit.

7/1 Phahon Yothin Soi 9 (connected to Ari Soi 4), 082-688-8200. Open Tue-Sun 5pm-midnight.

Kaguya

This Japanese-meets-French restaurant is not only a good spot for sashimi and sushi, its modern izakaya atmosphere is also ideal for a bout of drinking. There’s a long list of cocktails with plenty of Japanese signifiers, one of which incorporates tea. The Summer Tea Thyme (B280) adds cognac to lemon tea, citrus and thyme, and comes served in a tall cocktail glass filled with crushed ice.

The Third Place Building, Thonglor Soi 10, 02-714-9974. Open daily 5:30pm-1am. BTS Thong Lo.

R Bar

The Renaissance Hotel’s signature R Bar is playing around with various Dilmah tea varieties. The Marteani (B350) combines mint-flavored tea with vodka, lime juice, apple juice and Angustora bitters, all served in a martini glass. Tea-Licious (B350), meanwhile, blends chamomile tea, vodka, blueberry, raspberry and lime juice, and Relax (B350) takes the classic English breakfast tea and adds vodka, cream de cassis, cranberry juice, lychee juice and lime juice.

L/F, Renaissance Hotel, 518/8 Phloen Chit Rd., 02-125-5000. Open daily 7am-1am. BTS Chit Lom.

Woo Bar

Bard Petcharadit, the mixologist at W Hotel’s Woo Bar, is now getting creative with tea. He’s added a distinctly Thai twist to the Long Island Iced Tea by incorporating Thai tea and topping it with foam to resemble cha chak—the result is the Chatuchak Iced Tea (B400). Other tea-centric creations are the Silvermoon Gin & Tonic, in which TWG’s Silvermoon tea is mixed with Tanqueray gin, cinnamon and tonic water, and Earl Grey Gin & Tonic which mixes Earl Grey with Tanqueray gin, tonic water and is served with lemon. These two cocktails are available in the Sugar Rush promotion along with all-you-can-eat sweets from 2-5pm daily at B475 per person. And if you’re looking for something not on the list, just tell the barman to mix you a new cocktail with tea.

L/F, W Hotel Bangkok, 106 Sathorn Rd. 02-344-4000. Open 9am-midnight. BTS Chong Nonsi.

DIY Tip

If you’re stuck with a gin that’s too dry for your liking, adding infused Earl Grey to the bottle for at least two weeks will result in a milder taste and scent.
