From Jul 24-Aug 2Singapore Favourite Food Village at Clarke Quay lets you chomp your way through our local hawker heritage. It's not purely an eat-all-you-can event: you can also particiapte in live cooking demonstrations and meet the hawkers behind Ming Fa Fishball Noodles from the old Ellenborough Market formerly located by the Singapore River, which was well-known for stalls selling Teochew food until the early 1970's. We wish they'd rope in a few more of the original hawkers though.

Unlike the last five years, this year's edition comes with a theme which focuses mainly on Teochew dishes. Some highlights to look forward to include a showcase on preparing the Teochew Opera Porridge by celebrity chef Eric Low, a dish which was popular with traveling Teochew Opera performing troupes, and a live traditional Chinese opera performance.

And for those who just want to eat, there's the rare opportunity to try the famous Ming Fa fishball noodles made by the orignal hawker stall, braised duck, dumplings, prawn rolls and bak tuk teh, all staples of Teochew cuisine. 
But what's really getting us excited are the modern takes on local favorites, some potentially yummy-sounding items on the menu are orange-glazed pork ribs, carrot cake drizzled with salted egg yoke, truffle wanton noodles and churros done in ondeh-ondeh style.
