"We have a plan to beat the Illuminati": Interview with The Trees and the Wild
We chat with Tyo from West Javanese rock band The Trees and the Wild ahead of their gig with Deerhoof on June 19.
Cat Power and Blonde Redhead ditched us, but we're still extremely excited about Javanese rockers The Trees and the Wild playing a show with Deerhoof this week. Here Tyo Prasetya tells us about the band's plans for world domination.
How’s the indie music scene back home in Indonesia?
It's been growing a lot ever since the advent of the Internet. Now, people can listen to just about anything they want online.
Who are some of your favorite musicians? Who would you love to collaborate with?
We especially love musicians like Kanye West, Katy Perry and (fellow Indonesian band) Komunal.
Tell us some of your more interesting concert experiences.
Once, we played at a gig where the majority of the other performers were reggae bands. We played just before Tony Q, one of the biggest reggae artists In Indonesia. Throughout our set, the audience just kept chanting for Tony Q! Tony Q! Tony Q!
What’s the best and worst thing about being musicians?
We really love being able to travel all around the world to play our music. However, it's really difficult to actually earn a living as a musician—unless you follow the market trend and be a slave to your management.
You guys are pretty big in Indonesia. Is world domination next on your agenda?
We actually have a plan to beat the Illuminati!
Get in the mood for the show with this acoustic-goes-manic song by the band. Listen till the end.
Catch The Trees and the Wild live in concert with Deerhoof on June 19 at *SCAPE The Ground Theatre.
