Thailand’s general election is coming up this Sunday (May 7, for those who registered to vote in advance outside of their official address), and next Sunday (May 14). BK did a pre-election poll on Instagram with around 1,600 interested readers. Here’s what you said.
Are you planning to be a good citizen and exercise your right to vote?
44%: Yes, absolutely. I’d never miss it.
42%: Not eligible to vote.,
7%: No, I don’t think it’ll change anything.
7%: I forgot to register in advance to vote outside of my district.
We also asked which party our readers are planning to vote for. Parties are accompanied by their ballot numbers to help you at the polls.
It turns out that BK readers are a pretty liberal lot, with more than 44% going for the 1st place Move Forward Party (31), and coming in a distant 2nd was the Pheu Thai (29), garnering around 11% of the vote.
Rounding a close 3rd was the option, “Others, not listed in the choices.” These include names like Thai Pakdee (21), The Land of Dharma (34), the two-month old Zen-Dai (64), and beyond.
The 4th place spot went to the Democrat Party (26) with 9% of the vote, and 5th place went to the party that made weed decriminalization happen: Bhumjaithai (7).
After that, BK readers aren’t big fans. Thai Sang Thai (32) tied with Chart Pattana Kla for around 4% of the vote.
Prayuth Chan-ocha’s new party, United Thai Nation (22), Chartthaipattana (18), and the Thai Liberal Party (25) all got less than 4% of the BK vote.
And it’s bad luck for Palang Pracharath (37) with new leader Prawit Wongsuwan (instead of Prayuth), who barely squeaked by with 1% of the total, but when you have 250 senators, you don't need luck.
