In 2012, Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Siam Paragon ranked first and second on the world stage, beating out the likes of Disneyland in the United States, and last year saw Siam Paragon manage to claim top spot.

Except social networking statistics company Zocial Inc. revealed its latest social network service ranking system ZocialRank, and they claim Thais’ top five check-in locations for 2013 are as follows:

  1. Siam Paragon, 58,009 times
  2. Starbucks, 52,093 times
  3. Suvarnabhumi Airport, 46,559 times
  4. My home, home, home sweet home, 44,377 times
  5. CentralWorld, 27,375, times

Wait, what? What’s Starbucks doing in there at #2?

Well, it’s actually quite simple. The Starbucks ranking is actually cobbled together from branches country-wide, the top five being:

  1. Central Ladphrao
  2. Nimmana Haeminda Road Lane 9
  3. Soi Muban Pinklao
  4. Siam Paragon
  5. La Villa Ari

Other top-ranking multi-branch brands include ever-popular dessert joint After You and Fuji, while another surprise entry in the top five is ‘My home, home, home sweet home’—or basically whatever you call your dwellings.

The other interesting finding to come from the statistics is the sheer leap in Thai Instagram users since 2012. In one year, user accounts expanded some 546.52 percent, from 240,000 accounts to a whopping 1,551,649, 743,860 of whom are deemed active users (47.94 percent). 2013 also saw a total of 36,443,398 posts uploaded, 35,073,126 (96.24 percent) of which were photos.

Users are categorized into three groups:

  • Celebrities (0.26%) who have an average following of 172,013 and whose optimum engagement hour is 9pm.
  • Influencers (10.48%) who have an average following of 5,636 and whose optimum engagement hour is 6pm.
  • Normal users (89.26%) who have an average following of 261 and whose optimum engagement hour is 11pm.

Basically, then, if you’re a regular chump like us, your best bet for getting likes tonight is to post a bed-time selfie from your “home sweet home”—assuming, of course, your local Starbucks has already closed for the night.

As for the beautiful people, as of March 5, 2014, Thailand's most followed celebrity accounts are:
