The patch of land on Thonglor Soi 3 which for the past year and a half has been used by Root Garden to grow vegetables, look after chickens and host farmers' markets is soon to be no more.

The urban gardening experiment will bid farewell this Saturday (Jun 18) with the final hosting of its Root Market selling sustainable agro products. The day will also feature a series of mini-concerts and talks from the Root team, the landowner and Oxfam, who have supported the project since its inception. The event takes place from 10:30am-7pm.

Founded by the not-for-profit organization Plick Feun Puen Din Thai (Land Reform in Thailand), this tiny garden near Pridi Banomyoug Institute originally had a one-year contract in which to show how neglected land can be easily utilized by poor urban farmers. The contract was extended a further six months last December.

While no new location has been announced, organizers say they're looking for another centrally located plot that's easily accessible for city dwellers. Keep your eyes on www.fb.com/Rootgarden.thonglor for updates.
