There’s a lot going on at Chatuchak. According to the Bangkok Post, State Railway of Thailand (SRT) deputy director for operations and Chatuchak market director Jaraspan Wacharothai recently announced a 104-million-baht plan to “improve” the market. They’re going to start with some landscaping and new gates, but the plan also calls for studies to determine if the market should open every day, or stay open later. In the meantime, there’s a new development just next to the market, JJ Green (www.jjgreen.com), opening May 26. This “lifestyle mall” is actually not unlike the original JJ: a sprawling one-story web of open-air alleys. They promise 24 restaurants, a 30-stall food court and 150 shops once it’s fully rented out.
