Singapore Botanic Gardens' nomination bid as the nation's first UNESCO World Heritage Site receives a boost with the official announcement of a new museum and gallery set to open within its compounds in November.

Visitors to the Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) will get to experience a greater sense of the iconic attraction’s history with the new SBG Heritage Museum and CDL Green Gallery slated to be completed and opened by end November this year.

The new establishments will feature all things related to botany and greening, on top of exhibitions charting the illustrious journey of the Gardens to where it is today. The planners behind this project aim to foster a greater sense of pride in Singaporeans as well as support the campaign for the Gardens’ nomination bid as Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.

City Developments Limited (CDL) have contributed to the development and funding of the 240-square meter CDL Green Gallery, set to be integrated as part of the museum. On top of being Singapore’s first ever zero-energy gallery, it will incorporate some landmark eco-friendly features such as a fully-complete prefabricated modular system to expedite its construction process and utilizing the highly robust biomaterial, Hempcrete.

When the establishment opens its doors to the public, a mega exhibition entitled “50 Years of Greening Singapore” will kick things off, alongside other botanical and green-related displays. Ms Esther An, CDL’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and General Manager (Corporate Affairs) describes the venture as “ a golden opportunity to push the "e-envelope" and create a green masterpiece not only for the community to enjoy but to add another legacy worthy of SBG and Singapore.”
