This new gallery on Yen Akart is Bangkok's best art opening in ages
The huge new space on promises art, food, music and wine (if you can get in).
Yen Akart Villa, the new art space by French nationals Frederic Meyer (Issaya Siamese Club, Kom-Ba-Wa, Namsaah Bottling Trust) and diplomat Jeremy Opitresco, looks to be one of the most striking galleries in town.
Nestled on Yen Akart Road, the multi-purpose, by-appointment-only art space plans to feature a new exhibition every month (opening with a group show by Thai and French artists) and regular food events.
The modernist building's soaring ceilings, expansive use of glass and a crisp white facade take influence from the work of 1930s European architecture, says Meyer. Out front you'll find a 600-sq-meter garden.
Aiming to become something of a meeting point for artists, critics, collectors, journalists and entrepeneurs, the owners plan to host invite-only dinner events every two weeks, with around 15 invitees per event. The rest of us can only visit the gallery by appointment.
This is the second time Meyer and Opitresco have worked together on a project, following Namsaah Bottling Trust. For more information, call 02-2359-800 or visit fb.com/yenakartvilla.
