Having withstood 17 coups, and failed at two previous attempts to relocate, one of which resulted in the completion of a whole new building, Bangkok's Lumpinee Boxing Stadium is a real testament to self-defense. But now it’s on the move for real. The new boxing stadium will be built on a 6-rai plot of land on Ram Intra Rd., an upgrade from the present 3-rai venue. The foundation stones were laid last week for the new stadium at the Royal Thai Army Sports Center by Army Chief Gen Prayuth Cha-ocha, who serves as an executive director of the stadium, and director-general of the Crown Property Bureau Chirayu Israngkul na Ayudthaya. The B380 million project will reportedly take two years to complete—leaving you with plenty of time to give the old venue a fitting farewell.
