The megaproject boom is underway across Bangkok. From the One Bangkok and Dusit Central Park to the Mall Group’s reconstruction of Phrom Phong, sprawling projects that by and large integrate retail, living, and community spaces are set to reshape the city in the coming years.

In Bang Na, SF Development is currently expanding the area around aptly named Mega Bangna into Megacity, a B67 billion mixed-use development project that combines entertainment, shopping, and what it frames as “lifestyle” space.

One of that project’s biggest attractions is now breaking ground.

Earlier this year, Topgolf announced it would open its first branch in Southeast Asia at Megacity in mid-2022. Now we know a little more about what that entails.

The global golf and entertainment brand offers interactive golf games centered on an tech-driven driving range. In short, players score points by hitting micro-chipped golf balls at dartboard-like targets on an outfield, but there are tons of games to choose from, plus loads of food and beverage outlets, event spaces, and more.

Topgolf is basically a massive sports bar that offers games and activities for all ages and skill levels.

You can see it in action in this video (which fittingly features cameos from American sports stars).

Its branch at Megacity is going to be huge.

According to a press release, the three-floor entertainment complex covers more than 47,000 square meters, or roughly the size of seven football fields.

Here you’ll find 98 outdoor hitting bays that can accommodate 600 people at once, as well as ball-tracing and analytics technology for serious golfers. There will also be multiple bars and restaurants, the aforementioned event spaces, and more.

Topgolf currently operates 70 venues in five countries: the U.S., the U.K, Australia, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai). The Bangkok branch will be its first in the region, but Topgolf  representatives say that after inking a deal with TG SEA Development, they intend to build other branches across Southeast Asia.

Megacity, meanwhile, aims to tap into the lucrative MICE (meetings, incentives, conferencing, and exhibitions) space while enhancing Bang Na’s profile among suburban-seeking Bangkokians.

Megacity currently counts Ikea, Mega Bangna, Didyasarin International School, a couple of condos, and more in its portfolio. According to previous reports in The Bangkok Post, SF Development also plans to build hotels, offices, and residential buildings as the project takes shape.
