The entire editorial team of what looked set to become one of Bangkok's top voices for independent online news has announced they will be leaving the company this Apr 1.

Launched in Oct 2016, The Momentum's six-month run has seen it gain a fervent following for its out-of-the-box thinking and critical opinions.

Styling itself kind of like Bangkok's own version of Vice media, the website has already proven itself willing to tackle tough subjects head on, most notably in an intense interview on dictatorships and why they're successful in Thailand with Thammasat political science professor Dr. Prajak Kongkirati.

Other notable hits included an interview with pop artist Hugo on the dangerous power men wield in Thai relationships, and a candid series of sex-education videos covering topics like dildos and sex toys.

In a heartfelt farewell letter posted on The Momentum website today, editor-in-chief Nakarin Wanakijpaibul explains that the current editorial team will be leaving at the end of this month due to complications with the management from Day Poets.

Although the split was amicable, he reiterates that every news story, video or post from The Momentum afterwards will not be from the current team.

Although it's uncertain what will happen to The Momentum in the future, Nakarin also reveals that the current team have agreed to launch a creative project of their own in the near future, saying audiences can expect to see something from them by June.

The news does not reflect positively on Thailand's journalism sector, which has seen many magazines and news sources close down in the past year. In related news, it was also announced today that, as of midnight, news channel VoiceTV will be suspended for 7 days by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commision for repeatedly violating media reporting regulations as monitored by the junta.
