The roll out of new public buses fuelled by natural gas for vehicles (NGV) may finally be given approval this month, and at a significantly discounted price. The original Bhumjaithai-proposed purchase of 4,000 of the fuel efficient buses at B15 million each from a Chinese company was rejected and branded far too expensive. But then the Land Transport Department somehow got this down to 3,000 buses at just B3 million each. In the long term, the scheme would mean a decrease in the number of diesel fuelled vehicles used by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, as well as serious savings due to the cheaper natural gas. We’ll just have to wait until later this month for the final decision.
