Wouldn’t it be easier if you didn’t have to risk seeing your best friend’s mother or high school principal at the local Family Mart while you’re buying your condoms? Thanks to Inthira Tongsari, the dirty deed might become a lot less shameful. The director of the Bangkok Health Department (we never even knew it existed) proposed that vending machines distributing condoms be placed throughout various parks around the city. The vending machines placed in front of toilets at Rommaninat have already experienced success, garnering interest from students, the homeless, creepy cruisers and even the occasional jogger. The idea has faced some opposition as the results from a poll show that students, parents and teachers think that it will actually encourage teenagers to have sex too early, rather than prevent unwanted pregnancies and stop the spread of harmful sexually transmitted diseases. The plan is currently on hold, awaiting approval.
