Bombed Mamafaka Work Sparks Online Fury
News that a graffiti gang sprayed over one of the late street artist Mamafaka’s iconic works sparked massive outrage online today.
A photo emerged this morning on Dudesweet's Facebook page showing that Mamafaka’s best-known graffiti work, the huge Mr. Hell Yeah at the abandoned space near BTS Ratchathewi, has been bombed by a group called 043crew.
This brought about heated comments from many art and design professionals and Mamafaka fans, who branded the new work as mere vandalism and the 043crew as talentless attention-seekers, some even going so far as to mock up “wanted” posters.
However, another street artist DBT Street jumped to their defense saying the wall had been used as a canvas for local street artists for over 10 years.
The Mamafaka original was painted as part of the BUKRUK Festival last February, alongside works from P7 and Alex Face.
Pharuephon Mukdasanit aka Mamafaka, one of Thailand's most prominent graphic designers and street artists whose designs featured on shirts, bags, skateboards, died tragically last September while in Phuket. He had just received Cheeze Magazine’s award for Best Illustrator Style Icon.
