Bangkok is about to rediscover its canals, if Transport Minister Chatchart Sithipan gets his way. After a personal inspection of Klong Saen Saeb, the minister found the boat services unsatisfactory, particularly in terms of safety. Apart from more CCTV cameras and more environmentally-friendly boats, no specifics were given on how he plans to upgrade the service, but the objective is to increase the daily passengers from 60,000 to 100,000. In collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority, the minister also called for more canals to be given express boat services and for better connections for the existing transportation network.
