To start the New Year off on the right moral track more than 2,000 taxi drivers in Bangkok pledged not to refuse good service to passengers as part of a campaign called “Taxi Jai Dee” instigated by the Royal Thai Police. The volunteer cab drivers vowed to only charge fares on the meter for both local and foreign customers and not refuse to take people where they want to go. Launched after persistent complaints from commuters about taxi drivers, the special campaign sets out to achieve that toughest of tasks: getting people to do what they should be doing. Trouble is only 2,000 taxi drivers volunteered, which means you’ve still got about a 9 in 10 chance of getting the same surly service as always.
