An Uber fail, more Tan Pin Pin drama and restaurants that will never be—just another weekend in Singapore.

1. While some areas of Singapore are seeing the rise of new luxe hawker stalls, elsewhere on the island new eateries are being banned. Some hawker stalls have apparently become so popular they're disrupting traffic and The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has banned any new restaurants from setting up shop in seven busy areas.

2. It's been one challenge after another for Tan Pin Pin's controversial film To Singapore With Love. After being banned in Singapore, and then screened at the Freedom Film Festival in Johor Baru, it seems Tan's film is once again in the spotlight with concerns Malaysia's Home Affairs Ministry has pressured to have the film banned from a film festival in Kuantan, the capital of Pahang.

3. Saturday saw the opening of a new outdoor facility near Sembawang Park that will allow local residents more options for sport and recreation activities (including a new campsite and dormitory for overnight stays). As well as new recreation spots, residents are launching Project Blue Wave, to help better clean the coastline and protect the environment.

4. Three innovative Singapore products have won prizes at the prestigious international Red Dot Design Awards. The local projects include Tricia Chean's crafting kit to help relieve anxiety and Ken Ang and Daniel Chua's sleek new bicycle lock design. The three local winning entries were selected from over 4,000 entries across 63 countries.

5. There was backlash over the weekend from Uber’s free ride promo. Commuters were offered a free fare up until midnight when they downloaded the new Uber apps. But while we all love a freebie, many commuters were unable to get an available car and voiced their frustration over Twitter.
